Rabbi Weill

Dear Friends,

As you know from our emails and fliers, EHNT offers frequent and fulfilling opportunities for learning. Cantor Gale teaches popular classes on Jewish music and liturgy. Dr. Esther Javetz and her Adult Education team organize a steady stream of creative programs. And I teach classes on Mondays (Torah This Week!), Tuesdays (Stories from Our Tradition) and Thursdays.

The Thursday class is a “Nach” class. “Nach” is a Hebrew acronym for Nevi’im (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings), which comprise two-thirds of the Hebrew Bible. The first part of the Hebrew Bible is Torah. Put all three together and you get “TANACH”—Torah-Prophets-Writings – our Bible!

This week our Nach class concluded the Book of Daniel. (Previously we studied the historical books of the Nevi’im/Prophets, from Joshua to 2 Kings as well as several classes on how God called the prophets to their prophet missions.)

Next Thursday, we will begin a unit on Psalms. After a review of what the psalms are (who wrote them and when, etc.), we will read through and discuss some of my favorite psalms. We will begin with Psalm 56. If you have a favorite psalm, please let me know. I’d be happy to explore it with the class.

As those who have participated in our classes know, we have fun: we learn, we, we feel, we express, we are enriched ( and we often laugh).  Our classes are just a Zoom link away. Please join in!

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Jeffrey Weill
